Colombia’s culture is a mixture of many great things—from its cuisine, to its carnivals, to its dance and its cumbia and vallenato music. Colombian festivals are characterized by explosive colors, festival carnival costumes, bustling music and passionate celebrations. At Chicago’s Colombian Fest July 20-22, 2018 you will sample a little bit of everything our diverse country has to offer.
By the late 1990s Colombian’s constituted Chicago's largest group of South Americans and had established an active community in the city. A large amount of businesses, social and professional associations started forming. In 2013 the first Verbena del Summer/Colombian Picnic at Forest Preserve was created to celebrate our fast… growing community and love for our culture. In 2015 the Gran Festival Colombiano in Chicago was launched to provide Chicagoland Colombians its own festival.
This 3-day festival features local traditions, Grammy award winning artists that included Fruko y Su Tesos, Pastor Lopez, Sonora Carousals, Puerto Rican Power, Los Gaiteros de SJ, Anibal Velasquez, Charlie King, Colombian film actors and celebrities, artisans, an expanded food court, health fair, activities for Children and much much more. El Gran Festival Colombiano has grown so large in the past two years that it will move to a larger location in 2017 be known as Chicago’s Colombian Fest Al Parque to be held at Kelvyn Park, Chicago, Illinois. with New features for a larger Main Stage, and a full Carnival amusement area.
